Group Model Release Form Template

Group shoots multiply the paperwork problem: every recognizable person in the frame needs to have granted rights, and one missing signature can sink the usability of an entire set. The naive fix — one release with a list of names — creates a legal mess, because it’s unclear whether one model’s revocation or dispute drags down everyone else’s grant.

This template handles it properly: each model signs their own signature block, and a several-liability clause makes each grant independent. Three of four signatures collected? The images are still cleared as to those three.

What the release says

I, the undersigned model named below ("Model"), confirm that I am of legal age and have the right to grant this release. In exchange for good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which I acknowledge, I grant the photographer named below ("Photographer") and any third parties acting with the Photographer's authorization the rights described in this release.

I grant the Photographer the irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free right to use, reproduce, distribute, display, edit, adapt, and publish photographs, video, and other recordings of me ("Materials") created on the shoot date stated below, for the purposes described under "Scope of Use" below.

I waive any right to inspect or approve the finished Materials, and I waive any right to royalties or other compensation arising from the use of the Materials within the granted Scope of Use. The Photographer retains all copyright in the Materials.

AI training rights: Unless the Scope of Use below explicitly grants AI / machine-learning training rights, I do NOT grant the Photographer or any third party the right to use the Materials to train, fine-tune, or otherwise feed any artificial-intelligence model, dataset, or system, and any such use is expressly prohibited.

I release the Photographer and their assigns from any claims arising from use of the Materials within the granted Scope of Use, including without limitation claims for libel, defamation, invasion of privacy, and right of publicity, except for use that is materially false or that defames me.

This release is binding on me, my heirs, and my legal representatives. I have read this release before signing and I understand it.

This release is signed by each model individually. Each model’s grant of rights is several, not joint: one model’s signature, revocation, or dispute does not affect the validity of this release as to any other model who has signed it.

Common questions

Does every person in the photo need to sign?
Every recognizable person, yes — recognizability includes distinctive tattoos, silhouettes, and context, not just faces. Background crowds in public places are usually fine for editorial use but risky for commercial use.
What if one model refuses to sign?
The several-liability clause in this template means the other models’ grants still stand. Practically, you’ll need to crop, blur, or avoid commercial use of frames where the unsigned model is recognizable.
Is one shared form better than individual forms?
Individual releases are cleaner legally, but on a busy set a single group form with separate signature blocks (this template) is the pragmatic middle ground. Digital per-model signing links solve the same problem without the clipboard queue.
What if I have more than three models?
The printable PDF has three model signature blocks — print a second copy for larger groups, or skip the paper entirely: the digital signing flow sends each model their own link, with no limit on group size.

Skip the paperwork

Printing, signing, scanning, filing — or a link your model opens on their phone. Signed releases land in both inboxes automatically, timestamped and locked.
